Relay for Life | Cancer survivors take the first lap

Covington County’s Relay for Life event is just shy of two months away and local organizers say they still need teams to help raise funds.

Twenty teams have signed up for this year’s event, said committee member Randi Bozeman.

That number is up from 13 teams in January.

Chairman Larry Brown said this year’s goal is to have 20-25 teams, but the more the merrier.

This year’s theme is “Lights. Camera. Cure,” he said.

Bozeman said the next meeting is scheduled for Tues., March 17, at 6 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Express.

Teams are encouraged to participate in the meeting.

This year’s goal is to raise $100,000 by the April 24 event, which is held at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds.

Last year, 10 Covington County residents were helped by the funds that were collected at last year’s Relay for Life event.

Upcoming Relay for Life events include:

• Miss Relay for Life pageant is Saturday at LBWCC’s Solon and Martha Dixon Performing Arts Center, beginning at 2 p.m.

• A pet pageant on March 7 at Tractor Supply. For more information call 222-1125 or email cre0008@auburn.edu.

Registration forms are due by Saturday.
