The LBWCC Lady Saints dropped two games to Wabash Valley Monday afternoon at home with scores of 8-5 and 12-1.

Wabash Valley jumped out front 3-0 in the first inning off Lady Saints’ starting pitcher Rebekkah Matheny.

LBWCC cut into the early deficit with a two-out RBI single from Jecca Carden. The Lady Saints’ threat was ended when Carden was caught in a rundown between second and third.

Matheny shook off the shaky first inning with a strong second inning. Matheny shut down Wabash Valley in order in the top half of the inning.

The Lady Saints were unable to get anything going in the bottom of the second, and were punched out on three straight strikeouts.

Wabash Valley added another run in the top of the third inning with a one-out RBI double. Chanin Hancock came into the game as a relief pitcher for the Lady Saints, and got the next batter to popup to Chena Segree at first base.

Hannah Fountain reached on a one-out walk, and then stole second. However, the Lady Saints were unable to bring her around to score, and trailed 4-1 heading into the fourth inning.

After allowing the first runner to reach on a single, Hancock retired the next three batters to keep the score at 4-1.

Jamaica Williams led off the bottom half of the fourth inning with a single, and Carden drove her in from first with a RBI double. The next three Lady Saints were sat down in order to end the threat.

Wabash Valley led off the top of the fifth with a leadoff double, and the next batter drove in the runner with an RBI single.

Caitlin Jones reached first on an error and moved around to third base on errors, but the Lady Saints were unable to get her across the plate.

Wabash Valley increased their lead in the top of the sixth by plating two more runs, and were out front of the Lady Saints 7-2.

Williams reached on a walk to start the home half of the sixth, and Carden drove her in with a RBI double.

Abigail Powell plated Carden with a single to make the score 7-4 with one inning left to play.

Wabash added another run in the top of the seventh inning.

Fountain led off the home half of the seventh with a single, and was driven in by Williams on a two-out single. The Lady Saints were unable to get another run, and fell 8-5 in game one.

Carden led the Lady Saints with three RBIs, and Powell added one.

“Base running cost us a couple of times,” Lady Saints softball coach Candace Tucker said. “We hit the ball hard they just always seemed to go foul or right at somebody. Jecca Cardin and Jamaica Williams both hit the ball well.”
