Opp native takes helm of Troy University SGA

Heath Barton of Opp, has been elected to serve as the Student Government Association president at Troy University.

Barton is a junior risk management insurance major.

Troy University students selected new members of the Student Government Association Executive Board during an election at the Troy Campus on Wed., Feb. 25. The executive board consists of the SGA president, vice president of legislative affairs, vice president of campus activities, secretary and clerk.

Five leaders are chosen from the Trojan community each spring to lead the SGA of Troy University. The student body elects these individuals to lead them, address their concerns, and implement the changes the student body deems necessary on campus.

Troy’s SGA represents the student body within the university administration and the community. The SGA advocates the interests of Troy students and works to better the student experience through community events and opportunities.

Barton is active in several campus groups in various leadership roles, and is also a member of Farmhouse Fraternity.

He will also go to Africa this summer as a missionary.

He is the son of Tim and Freda Barton. He is the maternal grandson of Eleanor Burdick, and the late Fred Burdick. His paternal grandparents are Evelyn Elder, and the late John D. Elder and the late Jim Barton.
