County takes no action on purchase of building

Covington County commissioners included the possible purchase or lease of a building currently owned by Greg White in the agenda for a closed session Tuesday, but took no action on the item.

White has proposed selling the office building, formerly the dental offices of King and Burkhardt, to the county for $218,000. The building is 3,000 square feet, and is adjacent to county property near the courthouse.

Last week, commissioners met with representatives of each department in the courthouse to see if any would be willing to move their offices there. The suggestion was to use the building for office space and storage.

The purchase of real estate is among the reasons governing bodies are allowed to meet behind closed doors.

In other business, the commissioners:

• Agreed to be a sponsor for the LBW Community College 50th Anniversary Gala.

• Agreed to finance vehicles recently purchased for the sheriff’s department with Regions Bank, which submitted a bid of 1.26 percent interest for three years.
