A big fourth inning helped the Florala Lady Wildcats take down county rival Pleasant Home 4-0 Tuesday night in area softball action.

Lily Ritzell picked up the win for the Lady Wildcats with a complete game shutout. Ritzell also struck out three Lady Eagles in the contest.

In the fourth inning, Grace Cox led off with a single followed by singles from Callie Wise and Keadra Avan.

With the bases loaded, Amber Johnson drew a walk to score Cox from third.

Sammy Hammac was the next batter for the Lady Wildcats. Hammac took one cut then went down to the ground in pain. Hammac had to be removed from the game due to a knee injury.

Haley Chatham entered in place of Hammac, and ripped a single that cleared the bases to give the Lady Wildcats a 4-0 lead.

“Lily pitched really well,” Lady Wildcats’ head coach Pat Maddox. “Pleasant Home had runners in scoring position a few times, but they weren’t able to get anything across. Amber Johnson was our defensive MVP. She caught everything at shortstop, and even some in left field.”

With the win, the Lady Wildcats move to 7-6 on the season.

“Four of those six losses have been by one run,” Maddox said. “We are right there in the hunt. We lost to Brantley, Straughn and Slocomb by one, and then that fiasco to Andalusia the other night.”
