BREWTON— The T.R. Miller Tigers baseball team clinched their second straight area championship Friday at home as they swept the Opp Bobcats in an area match up.

The No. 6-ranked Tigers defeated the Bobcats 3-1 in game one to clinch the championship. TRM earned a 7-3 win in game two to finish off the sweep.

After the loses, Opp fell to 10-10 overall and to 0-2 in Class 3A, Area 2 play.

 

TRM 3, Opp 1 (Game 1)

TRM scored three runs in the first inning to edge out the Bobcats 3-1 to clinch the series and the area 2 championship.

Tigers’ pitcher JoJo Booker pitched a no-hitter through 3.2 innings to help TRM in the win. Dalton Tidwell had the first hit of the game for Opp in the fourth inning.

Booker went all seven innings on the mound for TRM and allowed three hits, one unearned run, walked two, hit one and struck out four.

Opp’s lone run came in the fifth inning when Gunner Wise scored on a Booker balk. Wise reached on a walk and advanced to third on a single by Greg House.

House, Britt Buckelew and Tidwell had the three hits for the Bobcats.

Buckelew took the loss on the mound for the Bobcats as he went six innings and allowed nine hits, three runs, two walks and had nine strikeouts.

For TRM, Jones Manning, Drew Williamson, Chris Jones, Booker, and Jordan Williams all had singles. Hunter Brittain had three singles for the Tigers while Tripp Floyd had a double and two RBIs. Jones added an RBI for TRM.

 

TRM 7, Opp 3 (Game 2)

In game two, the Tigers held Opp to three runs while plating seven of their own to get the four-run win.

The two teams were tied 1-1 after one inning before TRM plated three in the second, and one each in the fourth and fifth innings to build a five-run lead. After Opp cut the lead to 6-3 in the top of the sixth, TRM added one in its half of the inning to take a 7-3 lead. TRM held Opp scoreless in the top of the seventh to get the win.

For Opp, Cale Pierce took the loss on the mound as he went three innings and allowed five hits, five runs, walked none, struck out two and hit one batter.

Opp’s Trey Moody and Eli Johnson also pitched in the loss. Moody went 2.1 innings and allowed three this, two runs, walked four and struck out three.

Johnson went the final two-thirds innings and struck out two.

At the plate for TRM, Jones Manning had two singles along with Drew Williamson. Williamson had one RBI along with Hunter Brittain who had a single. Trim McDonald, Caleb Winton and Jordan Williams also finished with a single each.

For Opp, Johnson, Walker Messer, Gunner Wise and Maverick Ladson all had singles. Buckelew, Tylur Schivley and Pierce all had two singles each.

In the bottom of the second inning, Opp’s Greg House was injured after diving for a ball in center field. He was later taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Opp made five errors in the game two loss while TRM made one. The Bobcats left eight runners on base including the bases loaded in the fourth inning.
