River Falls could change limits

The speed limit on three roads in River Falls could soon decrease if the town council has its way.

Mayor Patricia Gunter said the council has to pass a resolution in order to install signs.

The council would decrease the speed limit to 15 mph on Crittenden Road, Frances Avenue and Guy Avenue.

Guy Avenue connects Hwy. 55 to the Post Office.

Police Chief Greg Jackson said that traffic was a huge problem in the town over the weekend.

“It was bumper to bumper,” he said. “We had a lot of people turning left on Guy Avenue trying to save time from going to the intersection of 55 and 84.”

Jackson described Saturday’s traffic as terrible.

“It’s the worst weekend we’ve had,” he said. “I sat at the intersection at Guy Avenue.”

Jackson said his department cannot direct traffic because it would make the city liable if a wreck occurred.

“We are about through with Spring Break,” he said.

Additionally, Jackson said Crittenden Road is a continued problem for people speeding.

“We’ve been writing warning tickets on Crittenden,” he said.

The council agreed to pass a resolution at its next meeting.
