Despite the chance of showers and thunderstorms this weekend, Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo officials say the show must go on.

Opp Mayor John Bartholomew said this week that he thinks the majority of the rain will miss Opp.

“We’re looking for a good show both days,” he said. “We think the rain will miss us.”

The city did purchase rain insurance to be safe.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., and then a slight chance of showers after that. The high will be near 79.

On Sunday, there will be a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., with a high near 78.

Yesterday, volunteers and vendors were busy readying for the weekend’s big event.
