The Opp Chamber of Commerce is leading a fight to keep Frank Jackson State Park open.

Fifteen parks including Frank Jackson in Opp and Florala State Park are among those that could close if funding is cut.

Emilee Gage of the chamber said she sees an influx of people ranging, who are spending time at the park.

“A lot of people come by here and get information,” she said. “They like to see what’s going on around the area.”

Gage said the Chamber is seeking testimonies from residents and visitors who enjoy Frank Jackson State Park.

“We are going to send packages to the Alabama Legislature and the office of the governor,” she said.

Gage said she’s looking for memories, good experiences and more.

“These parks mean a lot to our community,” she said. “Our Trailmasters, who are the only organization of its kind in the state, work diligently to make the park something we can be proud of.

“These are our parks,” she said. “If we don’t stand up and fight, who will?”

Additionally, Gage encouraged residents to sign a petition on change.org to keep the all parks open.

“If you are interested in writing a testimony about Frank Jackson State Park, please email yours today to egage@oppcatv.com or come by the Opp Chamber,” she said. “If you would prefer to send your own letter, I encourage you to do that as well.”
