Andalusia City Schools is still accepting applications for its Pre-K class, and hopes to be able to serve up to 36 students next fall.

Andalusia offered Pre-K for 4-year-olds for the first time ever this year, after receiving grant funding for a teacher and an aide. The system has signed a letter of intent with the state, and hopes to add a second class this year.

Selection for the class or classes is on a lottery basis. District administrator Sonja Hines, who oversees the Pre-K program, said applications will be accepted until 9 a.m. on Mon., May 4, and a drawing for participants will be held at 10 a.m. on May 6. Parents are invited to attend the drawing in the central office.

The first 18 names (or 36, if the second classroom is approved) drawn will establish the class, and all others will be placed on the waiting list.

To be considered for the Pre-K program, a student must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2015. The parent or guardian and student must live within the Andalusia City School district.

Registration forms are available at the Andalusia City Board of Education at 122 Sixth Avenue, Andalusia, AL; Or visit the system website at www.andalusiacityschools.net to download forms.
