Andalusia ends season at area

HEADLAND — After falling to Headland 5-2 in round one of the Class 4A, Area 2 tournament, the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs bounced back to defeat the Ashford Lady Yellow Jackets 13-5 in the first round of the losers’ bracket.

The Lady Bulldogs wasted no time taking the lead, when Merikal McCaskill drove in Haley Harper with a single in the top of the first inning.

Haley Snider put the Lady Bulldogs out front 2-0 with a RBI single in the top of the second.

Snider then scored on a single from Harper to put the Lady Bulldogs up 4-0.

The Lady Bulldogs piled on seven runs in the top of the fifth inning with RBIs from McCaskill, Olivia Amerson, Zaria Jones and Snider.

Amerson and Snider each drove in a run with singles in the top of the fifth to give the Lady Bulldogs an 11-2 lead.

Emily Terry put the Lady Bulldogs up 13-4 after crushing a two-run double in the top of the seventh. Ballard and Snider scored on the double from Terry.

The Lady Yellow Jackets loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Lady Bulldogs’ pitcher Tessa Walker escaped the jam after only giving up one run.

Snider led the Lady Bulldogs, going 5-for-5 against the Lady Yellow Jackets. Snider, McCaskill and Terry each had two RBIs to push the Lady Bulldogs to victory.

AHS ended its season Thursday after a 10-0 loss to rival Straughn in the loser’s bracket.
