Opp teacher jailed for alleged sex crimes; placed on administrative leave

An Opp High School teacher has been arrested for allegedly having sexual relations with two different students.

Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said an investigation was opened into allegation of the alleged crime on April 30.

McDonald said that after an in-depth investigation, Ashley Nelson Hall, 33, was arrested and charged with two counts of school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19 years.

Opp City Schools Superintendent Michael Smithart confirmed Friday evening that Hall has been placed on administrative leave from her job as an English teacher pending results of the investigation.

Hall was booked into the Covington County Jail on a $700,000 bond.

The crime is a class B felony.

If convicted, Hall faces no less than two years and no more than 20 years in prison for each count.

The case remains under investigation by the OPD and the Covington County District Attorney’s office.
