The Andalusia High School boys’ tennis team returned from the AHSAA state playoffs with a second-place finish in Class 5A.

The Bulldogs finished 18 points behind Class 5A champion Sylacauga High School.

In the No. 1 singles bracket, the Bulldogs’ Martin Murphy struggled, falling in the first match to his counterpart from John Carroll High School.

In the No. 2 singles match, Andalusia did better as Ben Bates romped through the field winning all four of his matches.

In the No. 3 singles bracket, the Bulldogs’ Brad Bozeman advanced to the finals but was defeated by Sylacauga’s No. 3-seeded player.

Grant Scott faced the same fate as Bozeman in the No. 4 singles bracket when he lost to his counterpart from Sylacauga.

In the No. 5 singles bracket, Andalusia’s John Morris won all his matches, including a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the finals.

Todd Wahl looked impressive early against the rest of the No. 6 singles players, but came up short against his counterpart from Sylacauga in the finals.

In the doubles competition, the Bulldogs did not do as well, earning 15 of the 36 possible points.
