Florala fell to Fruitdale 14-6 in spring football action Friday night in Pleasant Home.

The Pirates scored first on a long run from the Pirates quarterback to take an 8-0 lead following a successful two-point conversion.

After forcing the Wildcats to punt, the Pirates drove down the field for another touchdown, but failed on the two-point conversion.

The Wildcats broke onto the scoreboard late in the game when Avery McNeill found Caleb Wood in the corner of the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good leaving the score 14-6.

“I’m proud of the effort,” Wildcats’ head coach Brad Rhodes said. “Our No. 1 goal this spring was to give it 100 percent on every play, and we did a great job of that tonight. We are a young team, so we knew there would be some mistakes. Overall, I was pleased with our effort. Leroy Mitchell ran the ball really well, and he is only an eighth grader. He has a ton of potential. We will be asking a lot out of him this year, as well as a lot of other younger guys. Defensively, I was pleased how well we moved to the ball. We played very aggressive.”
