Calling all youth fishing enthusiasts.

The annual Youth Fishing Derby is set for Saturday at the USDA Service Center on the south bypass.

The event begins at 7 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m.

It is open for youth ages 3 to 15, but a parent or guardian must supervise them.

Free food, activities and prizes will be provided.

Participants must bring their own bait and tackle, and no more than two fishing poles per child.

“We hope this event will encourage families to get out and enjoy the great outdoors together as a regular thing,” said Tim Mersmann, district ranger at the Conecuh National Forest. “Fishing is a great way to spend time with a young person, enjoying what nature has to offer.”

The event is a collaboration among the US Forest Service, Conecuh National Forest, Andalusia Kiwanis Club, National Wild Turkey Federation, National Resources Conservation Service, Covington County 4H and Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
