Covington County, Opp look to take state title

Covington County will host the 2015 Cal Ripken state tournament this weekend beginning with pool play on Saturday.

Four other teams from across the state will join the Covington County squad, as they each look to take home the state championship.

The teams include, Covington County, Opp, Evergreen, Childersburg and Butler.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, and Opp and Evergreen will play the opening game at noon.

Childersburg and Butler will play the second game at 2 p.m.

At 4 p.m., Opp and Covington County will play in a rematch of the district championship game.

Evergreen and Childersburg will follow with a game at 6 p.m.

Covington County and Butler will play the final Saturday game at 8 p.m.

On Sunday, Opp and Childersburg will get the day started at noon.

Evergreen and Butler will square off at 2 p.m.

At 4 p.m., Covington County and Childersburg will matchup.

Opp and Butler will meet up at 6 p.m.

The final pool play game will be between Covington County and Evergreen at 8 p.m.

Following completion of pool play the teams will be seeded 1-5 for a single elimination tournament beginning on Monday.

The No. 4 and No. 5 seeds will begin the single elimination tournament at 4 p.m.

No. 2 and No. 3 will play at 6 p.m., and the winner of between the No. 4 and No. 5 will face the No. 1 seed at 8 p.m.

The championship game will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m.
