The city of Opp was awarded $374,064 for new sidewalks this week.

Opp Mayor John Bartholomew said the money was from a Transportation Alternative Program grant.

In March, the council approved a resolution to seek nearly $504,000 for sidewalks.

At the time, it was said the proposed project would place sidewalks on North Main Street, Stewart Street, Maloy Street and on Cameron Road.

The city will be required to provide 20 percent matching funds for the project, and pay design and engineering fees.

“We are really excited,” Bartholomew said.
