Opp teen charged with 3 sex crimes

An Opp teenager is facing multiple sex charges after he allegedly raped a minor child.

Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said the OPD conducted an investigation into a reported rap that took place at a residence while the guardian of a minor child was at work.

At the conclusion of the primary investigation, McDonald said that Michael Treyvon Hines, 19, of Opp, was charged with rape II, sodomy II and sexual abuse II.

Hines was transported to the Covington County Jail and held on a $650,000 bond.

Sexual abuse II is a class C felony. Sodomy II and rape II are class B felonies.

A person commits the crime of rape in the second degree if being 16 years or older, he or she engages in sexual intercourse with a member of the opposite sex less than 16 and more than 12 years old; provided, however, the actor is at least two years older than the member of the opposite sex.

A person commits the crime of sexual abuse in the second degree if he subjects another person to sexual contact who is incapable of consent by reason of some other factor other than being less than 16 years old; or he, being 19 years or older, subjects another person to sexual contact who is less than 16 years old, but more than 12 years old.

A person commits the crime of sodomy in the second degree if he, being 16 years old or older, engages in deviate sexual intercourse with another person less than 16 and more than 12 years old or he engages in deviate sexual intercourse with a person who is incapable of consent by reason of being mentally defective.

The case remains under the investigation of OPD, Covington County DHR and the Covington County District Attorney’s Office.
