In 3A playoff action, Region 1 No. 3 seed Opp traveled just south of Birmingham to take on Region 3 No. 2 seed Midfield in the opening round.

Midfield got on the board first against the Bobcats, but two touchdown passes from Orlando Lacey to Greg House in the first half helped guide the Bobcats to a 49-20 win.

The Bobcats were all over the field on both sides of the ball and stifled the Midfield passing attack.

Opp added to their lead in the third quarter when Darian Germany picked off a pass and raced 45 yards to the end zone.

Ty’Keenan White then added a short touchdown run for the Bobcats and Lacey tossed his third touchdown pass of the game in the fourth quarter to Reggie Thompson.

Thompson added the final score of the game a few drives later with a 41-yard touchdown run.

With the win, the Bobcats will host Gordo in round two of the 3A state playoffs.

Opp and Gordo met up last season in the third round of the playoffs with Gordo winning 35-6.

Gordo has blistered its way through an 11-0 season to this point and the No. 1 seed from Region 4 coming into the playoffs.
