Helping another got a little too close for comfort Wednesday morning in Opp.

At approximately 5:47 a.m., Opp Police patrol officers responded to a request from a local ambulance company for assistance in the area of the intersection of Main Street and Covington Avenue.

Upon arrival, Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said, officers learned that a patient that was being transported from Florala to Mizell Memorial Hospital produced a knife and stabbed a female ambulance crew member.

She did not suffer life-threatening injuries, McDonald said.

“The officers subdued the individual that was identified as Robin Michelle Watson, a 40-year-of-age female resident of Florala and she was transported to MMH ER,” McDonald said. “One officer was slightly injured during the involvement.”

Watson has been charged with two counts of assault II, a class C felony, and will be held on a $20,000 bond.
