It was tough sledding for the Opp Bobcats on Tuesday night when they were downed by the Georgiana Panthers 80-62 Tuesday night in Opp.

After coming off of a win in their opening game of the season, the Bobcats faced a tough early test against the state ranked Georgiana Panthers.  Georgiana held a three point lead at the end of the first quarter until Opp’s Reggie Thompson got a shot to fall at the buzzer cutting the Panthers lead to just one after one 17-16.  The Panthers piled up 29 points mostly on fast breaks to build a 19 point lead at half time.  Opp cut into the Georgiana lead in the third outscoring the Panthers 18-11.  The Bobcats managed to cut the lead to to single digits once in the fourth quarter.  Georgiana responded by pushing the lead back out to double digits near the end of the game.  The Bobcats put up 60-plus points for the second game in a row, but fell to the Panthers 80-62.

“With the loss of five seniors last year had a lot of new players filling different roles this year. I was pleased with the intensity and effort we played with. Opp has a good team….it was good to get a true road win. I was also pleased with how our kids stepped up in the absence of Richard Boggan. We need to continue to work and improve, we have had limited time to practice so we will continue to install and work on what we already have in.” said head coach Kirk Norris following the team’s win.  For Opp Devontae Williams led the way with 15 points.  Reggie Thompson had 14 points and Orlando Lacey added 12.

In varsity girls’ action, the Lady Bobcats fell to the Lady Panthers 43-42.

Breanna White led the Lady Bobcats with 14 points and MaKayla Crenshaw added 12 points.

Georgiana won the B-team match by a final of 34-29.
