It took eight innings, but the Straughn Lady Tigers fell in hard-fought area contest, 10-9, to the Headland Lady Rams in Headland on Tuesday.

Straughn took the lead in the opening frame when Brentley Armstrong came around to score.

In the bottom of the first, Headland made the most off of a couple of errors by the Lady Tigers and took a 4-1 lead into the second inning.

The Lady Tigers battled back in the top of the second inning with RBIs from Molly Stewart, Colby Adams and Armstrong to put Straughn up 5-4.

However, another error in the bottom of the second led to a run and helped Headland go up 6-5.

Sarah Langford scored in the top of the third on a single from Dallas Mackoff to tie the game 6-6.

The Lady Tigers grabbed the lead back in the top of the fourth inning when Kristen Peavey mashed double into center that allowed Stewart to come around to score.

Peavey later scored off an error to put the Lady Tigers up 8-6 going into the bottom of the fourth.

The score remained 8-6 until the top of the sixth inning when Peavey sent a solo shot over the fence in center to put the Lady Tigers up 9-6.

Headland added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and then tacked on one more with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings.

In the bottom of the eight, Headland’s first batter reached off an error and later came around to score on a one-out bases loaded single to give the Lady Rams a 10-9 win.
