Opp jumped out front of G.W. Long Tuesday in the Butch Youmans Memorial Tournament in Opp, but couldn’t hold on to the lead as they fell 8-7 in nine innings.

Opp picked up a run in the opening inning to put them on top 1-0.

The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth inning.

Alex Wise was hit by a pitch to start the top of the fourth inning for the Bobcats, and Parker Bracke followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Wise over to second.

A single from Kody Richburg pushed Wise over to third, where a passed ball to the next batter allowed Wise to score to put the Bobcats up 2-0.

G.W. Long responded with a run scored off a passed ball in the bottom of the fourth, and a Bobcat error in the bottom of the fifth led to tying run coming across to score.

In the top of the sixth, Wise was plunked again to lead off the inning and Bracke picked up a bunt single to put the Bobcats in business.

Richburg followed with a seeing-eye single between first and second that brought Wise around to score to put the Bobcats up 3-2.

Britt Buckelew then ripped a single into the outfield allowing Bracke and Richburg to score to give Opp a 5-2 advantage.

Opp pushed across one more run in the top of the sixth when Buckelew scored on an error of the bat of Orlando Lacey.

The Bobcats got a quick out to start the bottom of the sixth, but a single, hit batter and walk loaded up the bases for G.W. Long.

A passed ball allowed the first run to score and then a RBI single cut Opp’s lead down to 6-4 heading in the final frame of regulation.

Opp nearly added to their lead in the top of the seventh inning, but a close play a third didn’t go the Bobcats play and a double play ended the threat.

Buckelew hit the first patter he faced in bottom of the seventh and then gave up a single to the next batter.

A bunt moved the first runner over to third, where the then scored on wild pitch to make it 6-5.

A few pitches later, a second wild pitch allowed G.W. Long to plate the tying run.

Buckelew picked up a pair of strikeouts with the winning run standing on third to end the inning and force extras.

Opp nor G.W. Long could get anything going in the eighth inning and forced the game to creep on to the ninth.

After a strikeout to the first Bobcat batter, Lane Worley reached on an error and Wise followed with a single.

The next batter lifted a fly ball to short left, but misjudged the ball and had it bounce off his glove and fall safely to the ground.

However, Worley went diving back into second and the G.W. Long right fielder simply picked up the ball and fired it to third for an easy force out.

Richburg then stepped in with two outs and laced a ball down the third-base line that allowed Wise to come around to score to put Opp up 7-6.

In the bottom of the ninth after getting the first batter out, Buckelew hit the next two batters and walked the third batter to load the bases.

Two batters later G.W. Long produced a game-winning hit to knock off the Bobcats 8-7.
