Storm system to impact local area

Multiple rounds of storms producing periods of heavy rainfall, along with possible flash flooding, are expected today in the southwest and central Alabama, including Covington County.

The National Weather Service first predicted stormy weather earlier in the week, but now calls for a severe threat for the area through tonight.

Two to four inches of rainfall is still possible with locally high amounts possibly approaching 6 to 8 inches.

The greatest probabilities and largest rainfall amounts would be over the Western Florida Panhandle and over portions of Alabama southeast of the Interstate 65 corridor. We’ll have to monitor closely as this set up would significantly increase the potential for flooding in this area.

Along the coast a high risk of rip currents is expected through Friday morning.
