Longmire running for mayor of RF

James Longmire of Taylor Road in River Falls has announced his candidacy for mayor of the Town of River Falls in this summer’s municipal elections.

Longmire is a 27-year resident of River Falls.

Longmire, who recently was appointed to the town council, said he would like to work with council members and citizens of River Falls to make the town a better and safer place to live. He said he would like to continue to resurface town roads and create a park for area kids.

“I want to build a better tomorrow for citizens of River Falls,” he said.

He said he will be accessible to local citizens and will seek their opinions.

He retired from the Alabama Army National Guard in 2013, after serving 18 honorable years in the U.S. Armed Forces. While serving, he attended Longmire Central Texas College where he earned a degree in communications.

He has been involved in law enforcement since 1995 as a deputy and a jail administrator in the past, and has served as a volunteer reserve police officer in River Falls. He and his wife of 26 years, Sharon Denise Longmire, have three children, Eric, 29, Deric, 29, and James Jr., 25. They have two grandchildren, Brooklynn Longmire and Violet Longmire.

He is currently employed by the Covington County Commission as a foreman in the road department. Mrs. Longmire is a teacher in the hospital daycare.
