Lady Tigers split to start week

After starting off the week with a loss to Ashford, the Straughn Lady Tigers fought hard for a win over Andalusia on Tuesday in Straughn.

STRAUGHN 10, 

ANDALUSIA 5

Big innings on Monday led the Lady Tigers past Andalusia 10-5.

Straughn got the scoring started in the bottom of the third inning when Brentley Armstrong singled in Molly Stewart.

Kristin Stewart followed with a single that scored Colby Adams to put Straughn on top 2-0.

The Lady Bulldogs battled back and tied the game in the top of the fourth inning.

Zaria Jones singled to start the inning and then scored on wild pitch.

Chloe Mikel then drove in Sydney Ray with a fielder’s choice.

A five-run fourth for the Lady Tigers put them back out from 7-2 heading into the fifth.

Armstrong drove in Stewart with a triple and then scored on an error.

Hayden Willis sent a double to gap in left that scored Peavey to put Straughn up 6-2.

Willis later scored on an error.

Ray ripped a double to left field with two outs in the top of the fifth inning that allowed Haley Harper and Olivia Amerson to score.

The Lady Tigers added one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to take a 10-5 victory.

 

ASHFORD 6, STRAUGHN 5

The Straughn Lady Tigers took a late lead from Ashford, but the Lady Yellow Jackets rallied in the sixth to knock off the Lady Tigers 6-5 Monday in Strauhgn.

Hayden Willis started off strong in the pitching circle for the Lady Tigers and breezed through the first three innings with no problems.

In the top of the fourth, a double, error and a walk loaded the bases for the Lady Yellow Jackets.

Willis then got back-to-back outs and looked liked the Lady Tigers might escape the inning, but a passed ball and two walks put Ashford up 2-0.

The Lady Tigers, however, rallied back strong in the bottom of the fifth inning.

After the first two Straughn batters struck out to start thing inning, Carolina Fussell reached off an error and then Molly Stewart drew a walk to get the Lady Tigers in business.

Colby Adams reached on infield single and during the play Fussell came around to give the Lady Tigers their first run of the game.

Brentley Armstrong followed with a line-drive single to center that plated Stewart to tie the game 2-2.

The Lady Tigers took the lead one batter later when Kristin Peavey ripped a double to the gap in center that scored Adams and Armstrong.

Willis then gave helped herself out with RBI single to center that scored Peavey and gave the Lady Tigers a 5-2 lead.

Ashford answered right back in the top of the sixth inning with four runs on three hits, two errors and walk to give the Lady Yellow Jackets a 6-5 victory.

Peavey led the way for the Lady Tigers going 2-for-2 with two RBI.
