The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs won the Class 4A, Area 3 championship on Tuesday in Andalusia after hammering the Ashford Lady Yellow Jackets 3-0.

Ashford got the first point of the evening, but the Lady Bulldogs proved to powerful as they raced to a 25-5 victory.

Rachel Dayton got the Lady Bulldogs’ first point of the set and then Millie Manring took over the contest from the serve line.

With Manring at the line, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 15-point run to take a 15-1 lead. Manring picked up eight aces during the run.

Manring was drilling the ball just above the net and leaving the Lady Yellow Jackets with little chance to make the return.

As the Lady Yellow Jackets prepared to stop the heat, Manring would then change up the pace and placed the ball in opening on the court.

The Lady Bulldogs continued to dominate and pair of aces from Anna Brady at the end helped give Andalusia the win in game one.

Ashford gave its strongest effort in the third set, but the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs completed the three-game sweep with a 25-9 victory.

“That was a good clean game,” Andalusia head coach Angie Grimes said. “Millie (Manring) did an amazing job tonight serving. There is no doubt that was our strong point tonight. I’m extremely proud of all of these girls. Their ability to play together as one unit is one of the biggest reasons we have been successful.”

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs move on to the South Regional Tournament in Montgomery.

Andalusia’s first match will be Friday at 11 a.m.
