For those looking to forgo the artificial tree for a real one, there are several options locally.

John Niedbala of Covington County Tree Farm said they have live Christmas trees.

“One thing is instead of killing a tree, you plant one,” he said. “Take it outside and plant it with the kids after Christmas.”

Niedbala said their trees are not fire hazards like cut trees because they are still green.

“Once you cut the tree, it dies,” he said. “Then it dries out and causes a fire hazard, and the needles fall off and make a mess.”

The farm offers two options of the Christmas tree, a 16-foot, 15-gallon tree for $25, or a 4-foot, 7-gallon for $15.

Their farm is located is 19650 County Road 70.

Niedbala said they are usually there until it gets dark.

Casey Teel of Andalusia Garden Center also has real trees.

“We have five sizes of trees ranging from $50 to $150,” he said. “There have been people coming in all day and we have already sold a good bit. The city bought 20 to use for the train ride. I expect to sell around 120 trees.”

At Winn-Dixie, they just got a fresh shipment a few days ago of real trees.

They are $39.99.

Hook’s BBQ in Andalusia also has live trees. Cost is $40 to $60 depending on the size. Sizes range from 6 to 8 feet.
