5 arrested for drugs over weekend

Opp Police arrested five people in separate drug-related incidents over the weekend.

On Friday evening, around 5:38, OPD’s K9 unit conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Crown Victoria for a traffic violation on Bailey Street.

“K9 Bella was deployed and alerted on the vehicle,” Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said.

Officers found two ounces of marijuana and a set of digital scales.

Lakamaron Lacey, 26, of Opp was charged with possession of marijuana first and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was booked into the Covington County Jail.

A little while later, around 6:45 p.m., B-Shift officers were dispatched to Hwy. 331 in response to a reckless driving complaint from a motorist.

“Officers stopped the involved vehicle and upon making contact with the vehicle operator, noted that the vehicle operator appeared to be under the influence,” McDonald said. “Officers observed synthetic marijuana on the seat of the vehicle as well as in the floorboard of the vehicle.”

Nedarious Howard of Dozier was placed under arrest and charged with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was booked in the county jail.

Later, two Luverne residents were allegedly caught with crack cocaine and meth.

McDonald said that on Friday night around 9:39, a D-Shift officer conducted a traffic stop on a white in color Chevrolet Cavalier for a traffic violation on East Cummings Avenue.

“The officer observed the vehicle operator drop a baggie containing methamphetamine inside of the vehicle,” McDonald said.

The OPD K9 unit was utilized to search the vehicle.

“K9 Bella alerted on the vehicle and officers located three baggies containing methamphetamine and crack cocaine,” McDonald said.

Officers arrested James D. Grider, 56, of Luverne and Teresa W. Motes, 48, of Luverne.

They were both charged with possession of a controlled substance and booked in the Covington County Jail.

On Saturday morning, around 9:46, B-shift officers stopped a white Ford Ranger on Spurlin Street for failure to display a rear license plate.

McDonald said that a subsequent investigation by officers resulted in the arrest of Deidrlyn T. Lindsey, 50, of Opp for possession of marijuana second, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was booked in the county jail.
