Saturday’s 11th annual Cancer Freeze fundraiser brought in more than $50,000 for six locals fighting cancer.

“I don’t have an exact number yet, but you can say over $50,000,” said co-organizer Jennifer Davidson.

The Davidsons – Caleb and Jennifer – established the event in 2007 in memory of family and friends who passed away from cancer.

Proceeds from the day’s events, which included a 5K, water events, an auction and more, will be split among the beneficiaries.

The more than $50,000 will go to help the following:

  • Opp’s Robin Spurlin, who is battling breast cancer;
  • Straughn’s Kevin Crawford, 10, who is battling acute lymphoblastic T-Cell Leukemia;
  • Samson’s Chris Bowden, who has acute lymphoblastic leukemia;
  • Fort Walton’s Yan Negron, 30, who is battling breast cancer;
  • Opp’s Lilly Matt, 7, who is battling brain cancer;
  • McKenzie’s Heather Odom, 31, who is battling breast cancer.
Cancer Freeze went off without a hitch on Saturday in Florala, and the Miss Cancer Freeze pageant raised more than $7,000 alone for the fundraiser. Personally, I feel as if God gave us this beautiful lake to use for his glory for days like (Saturday).”
