The Andalusia Bulldog soccer team opened up the season with a 3-2 victory over Houston Academy on Tuesday night in Andalusia.

“I thought the kids played pretty well,” Andalusia head coach Jarret Williamson said. “There were some things that weren’t great, but you are going to have those kinds of things early in the season.”

Houston County went up 2-0 to start the contest and put the Bulldogs in a bit of a hole.

“We started off pretty rough,” Williamson said. “They went ahead early in the game, but our kids just kept hanging in there.”

Just before halftime, the Bulldogs connected on their first goal of the season, but Houston Academy was on top 2-1 at the halfway point.

“I was really proud of the way that we fought back into the game,” Williamson said. “We did a really good job of fighting back. The kids stood tall and fought through adversity.”

The second half was a lot of defense from both sides up until around the 10-minute mark.

“With around 10 minutes left to play, our offense really started clicking and we got two goals to take the lead,” Williamson said. “After halftime, I really thought we did a better job winning the 50-50 balls and keeping the ball on their end of the field.”

The Bulldogs were also victorious in the junior varsity match as they topped Houston Academy 2-1, after trailing at halftime.
