The armed robbery of the Opp Church’s Chicken became a bigger case when police went to arrest the suspects in the case.

Tues., Feb. 28, at approximately 9:49 p.m., the fast food restaurant located on the Florala Highway was robbed at gunpoint.

Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said yesterday that the investigation into the crime resulted in the arrest of Michael Hale Jr., 28, of Opp.

Hale was charged with robbery first degree and held on a $30,000 bond for that charge.

“Mr. Hale was taken into custody on outstanding warrants by the Covington County Incident Response Team at an apartment located on Hardage Circle,” McDonald said. “During the entry into the apartment, OPD investigators and agents with the 22nd Judicial Drug Task Force discovered evidence within the apartment, which resulted in Mr. Hale being additionally charged with possession of marijuana second degree, possession of drug paraphernalia and three counts of chemical endangerment of a child.”

The bond on those three charges was $930,000.

McDonald said when officers made entry into the apartment officers also arrested Katrina Middleton, 25, of Opp.

Middleton was charged with possession of marijuana second degree, possession of drug paraphernalia and three counts of chemical endangerment of a child.

She was booked into the Covington County Jail on a $930,000 bond.

McDonald said they also arrested a second robbery suspect on March 7.

McDonald said Lattimore was also charged with possession of marijuana first degree and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Covington County Jail on a $155,000 bond.

“The Opp Police Department would like to thank the 22nd Judicial Drug Task Force Agents that assisted with these cases as well as the Covington County Incident Response Team and the State Bureau of Investigation.”
