Editor’s note: The DOT on Friday morning corrected a previous statement that the rest area would be closed at night.

The Florala Rest Area will get an upgrade beginning Monday.

Brantley Kirk, spokesperson for the Alabama Department of Transportation said that the project will consist of planing, resurfacing and traffic striping at the rest area.

Kirk said that the project will close the rest area from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m., daily during the project.

The upgrade will cost $197,587, and Wiregrass Construction Co., of Dothan will do the work.

Kirk said they were the low bidder that met the project requirements.

The project should last approximately 30 days, she said.
