Red Level pushes past McKenzie

The Red Level Tigers picked up a big area win on Tuesday night when the dropped McKenzie 8-1 on Senior Night in Red Level.

In the bottom of the first inning, Kade Green reached first after drawing a walked and moved around to second when Chance Russell also drew a walk.

The Tigers loaded the bases up when Colten Dorman reached off an infield single.

Ramsey Morrow gave Red Level its first run of the game when he drove in a run with an infield single.

Jachen Hartz followed with a ground ball back up the middle of the diamond that allowed Russell and Dorman to score to give Red Level an early 3-0 advantage.

McKenzie loaded up the bases in the top of the second inning with two outs, but Green got Chris Shufford to gournd out to Hartz at short to end the McKenzie threat.

Kale Mancill got things started in the botom of the second when he reached off of a McKenzie error.

Mancill moved all the around to third on passed ball and wild pitch to set the table for Green at the plate.

Green delivered with a hard ground ball to center to give Red Level a 4-0 advantage.

Russell followed with a single, but Red Level was unable to push across anymore runs in the inning.

McKenzie got on the board after a hit batter and a single led to one run for the visiting Tigers.

Green picked up a strikeout for the first out of the inning and then got a 6-4-2 double play to end the threat.

Green continued his strong day at the plate when reached off of an error after a hard hit ground ball.

Russell followed with a single to move the runner to third base.

Red Level extended its lead when Dorman drove in run on error by the McKenzie third baseman.

A ground out off the bat of Morrow scored Russell to give Red Level a 6-1 lead.

Hartz then scorched a ball to center field for a run scoring single to give Red Level a 7-1 advantage heading in to the fifth inning.

On the mound, Green breezed through the top of the fifth after retiring the side in order.

Dylan Scruggs reached off an error in the bottom of the fifth inning and then moved up to second on a wild pitch.

Scruggs advanced to third when Russell singled to right.

Scruggs scored the final run of the game when the McKenzie pitcher was called for a balk.

“We honored our two seniors Jachen Hartz and Colten Dorman at the game,” Red Level head coach Todd Smith said. “They have been a big part of the success we’ve had this year. They will both be missed next year, and we wish them the best in the future.”

The win over McKenzie means Red Level needs to win just one game on Thursday against McKenzie to clinch a first-round playoff spot.

“The boys played great defense and we hit the ball well,” Smith said. “Kade Green did an outstanding job for us on the mound. He pitched a complete game, and only gave up one earned run.”
