EAGLES SOAR TO ROUND 2: Pleasant Home sweeps Shades Mountain

The Pleasant Home Eagles used strong pitching and timely hitting to sweep Shades Mountain in the opening round of the AHSAA Class 1A State baseball tournament Friday night in Pleasant Home.

PLEASANT HOME 5, SHADES MOUNTAIN 0

Pleasant Home got a strong performance on the mound from senior Walt Weaver to knock off Shades Mountain 5-0 in the opening game of the best-of-three series.

Josh Ruth reached on a one-out error in the bottom of the first inning and then moved around to second on ground out from Garrett Barton.

Ruth then stole third and home to put the Eagles up 1-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, Ruth reached on another error and then moved around to third on single from Barton.

Aaron Warthen followed with a single to right field to plate Ruth for a 2-0 Pleasant Home lead.

Pleasant Home added to the lead one batter later when Joe Gibbs ripped a double over the head of the Shades Mountain center fielder to score Barton from third.

Jon Cooley came around to score in the bottom of the fifth to put the Eagles up 4-0.

Weaver picked up the win on the mound as the tossed the complete game shutout and struck out 10 batters.

PLEASANT HOME 10, SHADES MOUNTAIN 2

The Eagles finished off the sweep with a 10-2 victory in the second game of the series.

Avery Taylor lead the way going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.

Joe Gibbs, Justin Gibbs, Parker Lloyd and Warthen each drove in one run for the Eagles.

Barton got the win and struck out 10 batters in five innings.
