South Alabama Regional Airport sold right at 100,000 gallons of fuel in March, a record for the facility.

That’s the largest fuel sales in the fiscal year 2015-2016 and fiscal year 2016-2017, and an increase of more than 25,000 gallons over March of last year.

SARA Executive Director Jed Blackwell said that March was record for the airport sales.

“February 2016 and June 2016 were both record setting months also,” he said. “March 2017 topped both of them.”

From Oct. 1, 2016 through April 24, 2017, SARA has sold 469,706 gallons of fuel.

Last fiscal year, the airport sold nearly 1 million gallons of fuel at 926,123.70 gallons.

“We were very fortunate to have very nice weather in March,” Blackwell said. “This is one reason for the large sales. Most importantly, our airport offers its customers a friendly environment along with several options of quality food. Our goal is to be the very best on the ground for the very best in the air. We strive to make Covington County known throughout the country as the airport that will treat you friendly and have the best food and quality line personnel around. We have quickly become known for our quality services. It has always been our quality services. It has always been our belief that if we provide a quality product customers will come.”

Blackwell said March sales are also a result of the efforts of the airport staff.

“Our employees strive to do whatever it takes to meet our customer needs,” he said. “Whether you are a military pilot, local pilot or local civilian visiting our airport, we want to assure that your experience is positive.”

Blackwell said that often, those who utilize SARA only come there in Covington County.

“Therefore their opinion of Covington County, Ala., is base on that one experience,” she said. “Think about this. If you have one mile of highway, you can go one mile down the road. If you have one mile of runway, you can reach anywhere in the world. A quality airport for a community is extremely vital. If your airport has poor services and facilities, that is a bad reflection on your community. If you have a successful, vibrant, updated airport that provides quality services, you will be viewed in a positive light all across the country.”
