The Andalusia Bulldog soccer team knows what’s at stake as they host the UMS-Wright Bulldogs in the first round of the AHSAA state tournament today at Andalusia High School.

“This is something that we set as a goal at the beginning of the season,” Andalusia head coach Jarrett Williamson said of Andalusia hosting the first round of the tournament. “We were able to handle area and just take a real step-by-step approach.”

Williamson said that his team will have to be on top of their game to compete with UMS-Wright.

“They are a really good team that has played a very tough schedule this season,” Williamson said. “It’s one of those things were they are probably a lot better than their record shows. If you look at their schedule, it’s just littered with teams that are in the top 10 in their respective classifications. From everything that I’ve seen, they are well coach and well disciplined. Without a doubt, this will be our biggest test of the season so far.”

In order for Andalusia to win, Williamson said that his team just needs to remember what got them to this point.

“Our biggest things is just to win one half at a time,” Williamson said. “We have to work on possessing the ball and creating opportunities through good offense. We have to understand that at the end of the day, we have to do the things that got us here.”

This week at practice, Williamson said that his team has been focusing mainly on themselves.

“We have to focus on no matter who we are playing,” Williamson said. “Our opponents going to be there, but we have to continue to take it as a step-by-step process. Let’s go out and win today’s practice and then win tomorrow’s film session. Whatever we are doing, we want to do that best that we can with what we have in front of us.”

Andalusia and UMS-Wright will kickoff at 5 p.m., tonight in the Andalusia High School football stadium.
