Andalusia High School junior Ethan Wilson and head baseball coach Tyler Dent have been selected to participate for the South in the 2017 Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association North-South All-Star baseball game in Montgomery on July 18.

The North-South All-Star baseball game is part of the 21st annual AHSAA Summer Conference and AHSADCA All-Star Games competition in Montgomery July 17-21.

“I was shocked when I found out,” Wilson said. “I found out late last night and I wasn’t expecting it.”

Wilson said that he is looking forward to the games.

“It’s pretty exciting to have this kind of opportunity,” Wilson said. “For me, it means a lot be playing with a great group of guys.”

Meeting the other players is something that Wilson said he is excited about.

“This is a great chance to meet some of the guys and hopefully build friendships that will last a long time,” Wilson said. “A lot of these guys have already committed to SEC schools, and it’s going to be fun competing against guys that have the same goals as me.”

Wilson said that he of course wants to play well in the game, but he wants to show them that he is more than just a ballplayer.

“I want to leave them with more of an impression of who I am,” Wilson said. “I want them to see that I’m a good guy with good character. Of course, I want to do well in the game and maybe get a few hits, but it’s about more than just baseball.”

Dent will join Wilson as a coach for the South All-Star team.

“It’s really great to have him there with me,” Wilson said. “He has been with me through it all, and I’m glad that he gets to coach me in the game.”

Dent said that he will cherish the opportunity to coach in the All-Star game.

“It’s really special that I get to coach one of my players in the All-Star game,” Dent said. “I just love watching Ethan (Wilson) play baseball. There aren’t many players like him. He plays hard and plays the game the right way. I’m very excited for him. He is a put in the time and the hard work. This is a very big deal for him to be apart of this.”

Along side Dent, LAMP’s Chad Smith will also coach the South All-Star.

The North-South baseball doubleheader will be at Riverwalk Stadium on Tues., July 18, with the first game set for 4 p.m. The second game will begin at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The game will feature the top 36 junior baseball players in the state, including eight SEC commits: Calera’s Jacob Smith (Vanderbilt), Cullman’s Will Morrison (Mississippi State), Hartelle’s Garrett Wade (Auburn), Hueytown’s T.J. Reeves (Alabama), Hewitt-Trussville’s Carson Skipper (Auburn), Randolph’s Josh Hall (Ole Miss), T.R. Miller’s Drew Williamson (Alabama) and St. Luke’s Jeremiah Jackson (Mississippi).
