Gantt Police arrest 2 for drugs

Gantt Police recently arrested two people on drug charges.

On Tuesday, Gantt Police Officer Ken Harris conducted a traffic stop on Oakey Streak Road in Gantt.

During contact with the driver, Melinda Chance Lee, Harris obtained consent to search the vehicle.

During the search, Harris located in Lee’s purse, a small plastic bag containing ice methamphetamine and a glass-smoking device containing methamphetamine residue.

Lee was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The case was turned over to the 22nd Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force.

On another traffic stop, Harris stopped a vehicle for improper lights on Hwy. 29 North near Haygood Road in Gantt.

Harris approached the driver of the vehicle and could smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Harris made contact with the driver and identified him as Brandon Scott Rowell.

There were also two small children in the vehicle with Rowell.

He admitted to using methamphetamine earlier that day.

Rowell was found in possession of around 3 grams of methamphetamine, an amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana second, possession of drug paraphernalia.

The case was also turned over to the 22nd Judicial Drug Task Force.

“The officers of the Gantt Police Department are working to eradicate illegal drug use and sales within the city of Gantt, Ala.,” Gantt Police Chief Chris Byrd said. “Illegal drug-related cases are taken very seriously, and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
