An 11-year-old led Opp Police on a pursuit early Sunday morning.

Around 3:47 a.m. Sunday, an OPD D-Shift officer observed a 2003 Mazda Tribute being operated on West Cummings Avenue without its head lights on.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle and the vehicle operator accelerated and attempted to evade the officer, OPD Chief Mike McDonald said.

The driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Dorsey Street and Samuel Avenue where the vehicle crossed Samuel Avenue and crashed into a wooded area.

The officer took and 11-year-old juvenile who was driving the vehicle into custody.

The juvenile received minor injuries and was transported to the Mizell Memorial Hospital Emergency Room by ambulance.

The juvenile was charged with attempted to elude a police officer.

McDonald said the child was released to a caregiver by the Department of Youth Services.
