The Covington County 14U baseball All-Stars’ season might not have ended the way they wanted, but that didn’t stop the young men from raising nearly $3,000 to help send the Covington County 8U All-Star softball team to World Series.

On Friday night, the 14U boys presented the 8U girls with a check for $2,850 raised through a silent auction.

“We figured since we weren’t able to win, we could at least do something to help these girls out,” Christy Turner said. “We had no clue that we would raise as much as we were able to.”

Turner, whose son Mason played for the County 14U All-Stars, said the community went above and beyond donating items for the auction.

Donations of all kinds were made by locals wanting to support the County 8U All-Stars, from homemade cakes to photography sessions with local photographers and everything in between.

The County 8U All-Stars will head to Jensen Beach, Fla., next Friday for the Babe Ruth 8U World Series.

They are the first Covington County team to win their way into the World Series.

The County 8U All-Stars will also hold a fundraiser today at the Kiwanis Fair Ground from 5-8 p.m.

There will be games, concessions, prizes, inflatables, face painting, a silent auction and a dunking booth. There will also be a home run derby at 6 p.m.

A $5 entry fee will cover all of the events, excluding the home run derby. There will be a $20 entry fee for the home run derby.
