Andalusia Health appoints Herrington to new position

Amy Herrington, RN, who has served as Nursing Director for Emergency Services, has been promoted to Director of Cardiovascular, Critical, and Emergency Services at Andalusia Health. In her expanded capacity, Herrington will serve as the nursing director over the ICU and stress testing while retaining her existing responsibilities.

Herrington, who is a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) as well as CCCC, began serving in a director role at Andalusia Health in December of 2008. She has more than 12 years of experience in leadership roles at Andalusia Health.

Herrington began her career in nursing in 1997 at Andalusia Health. She earned an associate nursing degree at Jefferson Davis Junior College in 1997. While at Andalusia Health, the facility has scored a 96 on the Pediatric Readiness Project, Ensuring Emergency Care for All Children. In 2016, Herrington led the Andalusia Health team to become an Accredited Chest Pain Center from by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. The emergency department has consistently been in the top 5 of LifePoint EDs of Tier 2 Hospitals for the past two years. Earlier this year, Andalusia Health’s Emergency Department was nationally recognized as one of 52 hospitals nation-wide with the lowest wait times.

Herrington’s leadership is also demonstrated through her work with the local district attorney and Department of Human Resources to develop a sexual assault nurse examiner program at Andalusia Health. Currently, there are three nurses who are SANE trained for adults and adolescents, and Herrington performs all child exams.

She has served on the LifePoint ED Council since 2012. The work of the ED Council has been nationally recognized and awarded the Emergency Nurses Association’s TEAM award for 2016.

During her tenure at Andalusia Health, she has served as a charge nurse in Med-Surg, charge nurse in ED, obtained her certification in emergency nursing (CEN), was Med-Surg Nurse Manager, Emergency Department Director and House Supervisor, and became Certified Cardiovascular Care Coordinator.

Herrington takes a leadership role in the community through her service on the Bethesda House Board. She is an active member of the interdisciplinary team of the Child Advocacy Center.

She and her husband, Jonathan, have a blended family including seven children. Madison is a Registered Diagnostic Sonographer at Covington OBGYN & Andalusia Health and also serves as a clinical instructor for Lurleen B Wallace Community College. Madison is married to Jonathon Parrish who is Fleet Manager at J.M. Jackson Chevrolet. Colter is a National Registered Paramedic employed with PrideMark EMS, and is engaged to be married to Paige Cook. Kristena, Sierra, and Courtney are currently in college. Cooper attends Straughn Elementary. Will joined the family after the Herringtons were appointed guardians in November 2016.
