Opp Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday night.

Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said that at approximately 8:31 p.m., Mizell Memorial Hospital emergency room staff contacted the Opp Police Department and reported that a male individual come into the ER with a gunshot wound to his chest.

OPD D-shift officers and responded to the emergency room and then officers went to and secured a segment of Hardage Circle, where they attempted to locate the scene of the shooting, McDonald said.

The victim was identified as Willie G. English, 39, of Opp.

English was treated at Mizell and then flown by air ambulance to an area hospital.

McDonald said investigators are working on the case, and are asking that anyone with any information concerning the shooting contact OPD’s investigations division at 493-4511.
