Andalusia High Schoo Hall of Fame Banquet set for Aug. 19

The Andalusia High School Quarterback Club will induct six members in the 2017 AHS Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 19.

This is the eighth year that the quarterback club has held the event.

The inductees this year are Dr. C.C. Baker, George Patton Gantt, Denny Merritt, Sam Johnson, Kendall Taylor and Paul Spears.

Baker spent nine years as a coach and administrator at Woodson High School.

Gantt was a 1964 graduate of Andalusia High School. Gantt still lives in Andalusia with his wife Brenda Gantt. They have two children Dallas Gantt and Hannah Gantt Merrell.

Merritt graduated from Andalusia in 1978 before playing at the University of Alabama under head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.

Johnson was a 1972 graduate of Andalusia High School and currently resides in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia. Johnson is the brother of current Andalusia mayor Earl Johnson.

Taylor graduated from Andalusia in 1970 and then officiated high school football for more than 20 years.

Spears was a 1971 graduate of Andalusia. He was named MVP his senior year and signed with Florida State.

The event will be held Sat., Aug. 19 in the AHS volleyball gymnasium at 6 p.m.

Tickets for the event are $25 and may be purchased at Jones Veterinary Hospital, Southern Independent Bank, Jones and Jones Attorneys at Law and Jody Jackson.
