Man charged with murder attempt

An Opp man is facing attempted murder and other charges after he allegedly shot another Opp resident with a stolen gun and then hid under a storage building Saturday.

Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said that police were called to the 2300 Block of West Cummings Avenue on Saturday around 2:22 p.m., concerning shots fired.

Upon the officers’ arrival, they determined that a 36-year-old male resident had sustained a minor gunshot wound to his arm.

Officers began a search of the area and located the suspect hiding under a storage building and secured his firearm and took him into custody.

The victim who was shot refused medical treatment.

The suspect was identified as Justin J. Long, 24, of Opp.

He was charge with discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, attempted murder and possession of a stolen firearm.

The firearm was stolen from Long Beach, Miss.

He was booked into the Covington County Jail on a $129,000 bond.
