Troy upsets No. 25 LSU

When the LSU Tigers offered Troy nearly $1 million dollars to come down to the Bayou for homecoming, they probably weren’t expecting the Trojans to pull off a 24-21 upset over the nation’s No. 25-ranked team.

Troy got things rolling on their opening drive and needed just five plays for Brandon Silvers to plunge into the end zone from 1-yard out.

The score remained 7-0 until the final seconds of the opening half.

Silvers connected on a long pass and first down that put the Trojans into field goal range, but the officials didn’t stop the clock and the buzzer sounded for halftime.

LSU’s players and coaching staff immediately sprinted to the locker room, but Trojan head coach Neal Brown began pleading his case that Troy should have at least a second left on the clock since in college football the clock stops while the chains are reset following a first down.

The officials called upon the replay booth to make the decision, and after a lengthy look they decided that the Trojan player was down with two seconds left on the clock.

They brought the players back on the field for one final play and Troy’s Evan Legassey had just enough leg to on the 37-yard field goal attempt to give the Trojans a 10-0 lead at halftime.

Troy continued to knock the Tigers in the mouth as a Jordan Chunn touchdown to start the second half put Troy up 17-0.

Late in the third, LSU got their first score of the game when Myles Brennan found Foster Moreau for a 7-yard score.

The Trojans got a touchdown from Josh Anderson midway through the final quarter to put Troy up 24-7.

LSU began to rally and looked like that might overcome the Trojans after getting a pair of touchdowns that trimmed the Troy lead down to 24-21.

Troy’s Blace Brown put a cap on the game when he picked off a Danny Etling pass with 13 seconds left on the clock.
