Runs, walks planned many Saturdays this season

The temperatures are dropping, making outdoor exercise more inviting.

For those who need a goal to motivate them to get moving, there are a number of running events planned this fall.

Each of the events also welcomes walkers as participants.

 

 

Oct. 28, 2017

The 17th Annual Coterie “Run for Kids” will kick off registration at 7:30 a.m. The Coterie Club organizes the event, and uses the money raised to go toward the community. Registration for each of the events are as follows: $15 for the 5k, including a t-shirt; $10 for the one mile, including a t-shirt; and no fee for the Tot Trot, with the option to buy a $10 t-shirt. The 5K will start at 9 a.m. at the First Methodist Church. The one-mile run will begin at 10 a.m. at the Covington County Bank Parking lot. The Tot Trot will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Andalusia City Hall. For more information go to the club’s Facebook page, Coterie-Club-of-Andalusia.

 

The Opp Rotary Club is sponsoring the 6th annual Scarecrow 5K Road Race. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. Registration the day of the race will be $30, including a t-shirt while supplies last. The 5K Road Race will start near the First Baptist Fellowship Hall. The run will be 5.1 miles. Awards will go to overall and masters, both male and female. The age groups are: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, as well as 65 and up. Awards will also be given in the Walk division. All proceeds will help the Opp Rotary Club with their community projects as well as award scholarships with their scholarship program. Nov. 18, 2017

The Florala High School Track and Field will sponsor the Turkey Trot 5K. Registration is from 7 to 8:45 a.m. The registration fee will be $25. The run will start at 9 a.m. near the Airplane on FL Highway 85. The course will go around Lake Jackson, and will be through two states. All proceeds will go towards the funding of the Florala Track and Field team.

 

Dec. 2, 2017

The Andalusia Civitan Club will holding be a half marathon and 5K on Dec. 2nd at 7:30 a.m. The money raised from this event goes back towards the community.

Registration fees are: for the half marathon, $40; for the 5K, $25; and for the 5K walk, $25. The course will begin at the Springdale Estates and pass through cANDYland. For more information or to register go to: https://register.chronotrack.com/r/28025

 

 

Dec. 9, 2017

Santa’s 5K for Relay will be held to raise money for Relay for Life. The Andalusia Relay for Life team organized the event. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. the day of the race, or there is registration available online. Entry fees are: $25 for 13 years old and up, $20 for 7-12 years old, $10 for under 7 years of age. The line-up will begin at 8:15 a.m., the race is set to start at 8:30 a.m. There will be awards for first place male/female and second place male/female. Dec. 16, 2017

The 1st Annual Red Nose Reindeer Dash will start at 8:30 a.m. The Farmer’s Market is the start and end point. Early registration begins December 7th, and will be $25 for adults, $10 for ages 9 and under. All early registrations will receive a t-shirt. Race day registration will be at 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. for $30. Medals will be given for first and second place winners in each male and female age group. The age groups are: 9 and younger, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, as well as 60 and up. A gift basket will also be given to the most Christmas dressed participant. The Covington County United Fund organized this event in order to raise money to give back to the community. For registration go to: www.active.com.
