5 finalists selected for FPD chief position
Published Tuesday, December 9, 2008
Five finalists for Florala’s police chief were named Monday, and among those finalists are a former Covington County Sheriff, three current police chiefs and one retired Alabama Beverage Control Board agent.
Mayor Robert Williamson said he hopes interviews will be completed by Friday to allow for a public meet and greet Sunday with the three final candidates.
Finalists are former sheriff Anthony Clark; Clayton Police Chief Robert Patrick; Lockhart Police Chief Tim Hardage; Florala’s acting police chief Chris Jackson and Sonny Bedsole, a retired ABC agent.
Williamson said a question and answer session will be held during the reception and, if interested, the public is asked to submit questions for the next chief in writing to city hall no later than Friday. The reception will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
Additionally, there are four finalists in the search for the city’s city clerk. They are interim city clerk Kathy Rathel, Sandra Cobb, Gwen Martin and Tracey Erwin.
A new clerk should be named by end of the month.

to chester, the retired beer police has been more than that if you know anything about him , he did more for drug clean up in florala and else where then did the local city police , if it was not for him the "hill" in florala would be little harlem today. If you are not old enough to remember he was the one in the mid 80's when he started with florala who stopped 2 cop killers from new jersey that escaped when every one else could not.So i just hope florala gets the right one and that is sunny ,,,,,,,,

I am white, and fully agree with botasspor...drugs are everywhere!..whites, blacks it doesnt matter. Infact all the meth labs Ive heard about were white people. I agree also that no one thats prejudice should even be in the running. He actually killed a mentally challenged man that was unarmed...and yet he's running for sheriff...ONLY in alabama.

Truebeliever, what in the world are you talking about?Unarmed, running for sheriff?
So what you on,Crack?
I know most of the five, and have worked side by side with them.Tim,Sonny and Anthony, all good law enforcement men.But Sonnys' heart is in Florala and I know he would make the people of that town proud of their community.I wish all of them good luck but my vote would have to go to Sonny.

The good part is, that someone needs to get the position, that will take back control and are for all the people. Race is not a issue here, but who is the right one for the job, whoever it may be, has a hard road ahead of them. Wish them the best, and the commuity needs to come together to support the decision. Most know drugs are a problem all over, but the past Admistration I understand did not want a working relastionship with the DTF, I wonder why. Solution is one that is willing to get the job done, SERVE and PROTECT the citizens of Florala. Stop the stone throwing and give whom ever the time and support to do the job. Good luck to those willing to do the job,and all are known local, But the one out of Clayton, go out to the meet and greet ad listen to these prospects and then let council hear you, not here in the blogs.

well i do hope a chief is hired. but i want to know when are they going to charge the former city clerk who on two occasions may have miss used the city credit card for personal use. i know it was investigated and found to be true. the former mayor was going to take action on it then decided it was ok for the city to buy her a tv among other things. must take after the former probate.
