Obama must not ignore Confederate rights issue
Published Tuesday, November 11, 2008
Will President-elect Barack Obama further divide Americans by yielding to extremists in his party who are intolerant of the Christian cross and U.S. flag because both symbols are more associated with slavery and the KKK than the Confederate battle flag?
If the Confederate flag can be banned from our schools, then the Christian cross and U.S. flag can also be banned.
If Obama’s call in his victory speech for “individual liberty” and “determination to heal the divides” was sincere, then he will set the example himself by advocating students’ right to wear clothing displaying our veterans’ Confederate flag in the public schools and the teaching of the truth that Lincoln’s War was fought over taxes and not slavery, at all.
Obama should follow the example of Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright, who rode in the parade down Dexter Avenue honoring Confederate States President Jefferson Davis this past June, while other politicians stayed home.
Democrat Bobby Bright’s defeat of Republican Jay Love for Congress in a very Republican district and, in spite of Love’s endorsement by Gov. Riley, proves the political wisdom of supporting our Confederate heritage.

Who in their right mind would want their child to wear clothing that displayed a confederate flag? You are actually requesting that our new president go back in time and re-write history books to change the events of a war? Why haven't you asked your previous presidents, teachers in the community, and state's officials to change it before now? Why haven't you marched to the high school, middle school, and elementary school and voiced your opinion before now? Is that you really don't have an opinion and you're looking for something to say because you're so upset about our new president being black? It's sad that it's the year 2008 and racism still runs wild with uneducated, prejudice CHRISTIAN bigots. SMGH

Our new president has enough on his plate to clean up! Look at the mess George Bush and his Republican party has made. I can't believe people are actually nit-picking about making sure children are taught that Lincoln's War (no such thing) was fought because of taxes and not slavery. What about our present war? What about our soldiers over seas now? What about our economy? What about people losing their houses to foreclosure? What about people losing their jobs? What about all these things but people are worried about children being able to wear a confederate flag on their clothing? Unbelievable! It's a new day people. Come into the light because the back-in-the-day, confederate flag, KKK time has passed. You will never get it back. People need to get over their CHRISTIAN prejudice and support our new president instead of digging ditches for him and washing themselves with racism. If you didn't ask Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter, Ford, Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy, Eisenhower, Truman, Roosevelt, etc. before now....WHY WOULD YOU WAIT UNTIL 2008 to decide you want children to be taught that there was a "Lincoln War" because of taxes? Why now? I'm disgusted.
