Sessions visiting Andalusia

Will hold ‘health care listening forum’ Wednesday at Kiwanis Center

Published Wednesday, August 26, 2009

U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) is expecting a crowd when he comes to Andalusia next week for one of two “health care listening forums” scheduled in south Alabama.

The third-term senator, who generally meets with constituents at David’s Catfish House when he visits Andalusia, has booked the Kiwanis Community Center, a venue which will be set up to accommodate 600 people. The meeting is set for 2 p.m. Wed., Sept. 2. A similar meeting is planned in Mobile on Thursday.

An announcement of the event states that Sessions will give brief opening remarks at each meeting, but most of each event will be dedicated to hearing from residents.

“It’s expected that the Senate will consider health care legislation when the Congress reconvenes in September,” Sessions’ spokesman Stephen Boyd said. “The forums provide an opportunity for citizens to share their thoughts and ideas about the nation’s health care system with Sen. Sessions. We’re looking forward to these productive and informative events, and we encourage anyone interested to attend.”

The Senate will likely take up health care legislation upon its return to Washington following the August state work period. A number of proposals are under consideration in Congress, but a final bill has not been drafted.

In response to a wave of constituent inquiries about the various proposals, Sessions recently posted links on his Senate Web site to each of the major reform bills, as well as to a number of government agencies and independent organizations offering background information and analysis. The site from which the links are available is www.sessions.senate.gov.

OK taxpayers and voters and anyone affected by the proposed health care reform...here is your opprotunity to make your concerns heard. Dont drop the ball by not attending. I know everyone cant take off work at 2:00 on a workday but if at all possible be there and let Sen. Sessions know where you stand. This may be the last chance you get.

And don't forget who'll be there cheering on the Bill and antagonizing those of us who do not want any part of it.
Some will be shipped in, be sure of it, just as they did in Panama City, Fla. and Portsmouth, N.H..
So get there early.

What happened in Montana, a conservative State, when Obama went there is unbelievable. Eyewitnesses have reported what the press did not. I'll see if I can locate that info for you.

Wish I could be there! Shamrock, we need a citizen reporter to cover this event for those of us too far away to attend.

I echo the sentiments of Loyal American and Support Veterans, a good chance for Andalusians and Covington Countians to show a "United" effort of display for a United States Senator visiting the Kiwanis Community Center for local input and a 'listening' session. I urge all Civic and community leaders as well as the average American to attend and Andalusia will be remembered in Washington, D.C. and maybe 'stand out' as a progressive City.

WAtidefan: I pass that reporting to Loyal, Rgodwin and Winkie..but I promise to be there.

The Maryland Meeting was a joke...only the pro Obama healthcare people were there. I had to stop watching so as not to convulse.
The Anchorage Town Meeting was very civil and anti Obama's were allowed to voice their ideas as well as fears. Sen. Muklowski was not very helpful in her answers however. (a Republican)

be sure and bring your own cameras..record what is really said. Don't bring your children. Offer rides to the elderly to attend and watch out for them once they are there. It is time to take a note from the other side and organize.

I watched Cspan's coverage of Kenner, Louisiana's Townhall Meeting - there was not one obamacare person there!

Sen. David Vittner, Congressmen John Fleming, Dr. John Barrasso, and Jim Moran - all took questions and gave DETAILED answers, and the forecast of our Nation's demise if any of the Bills are passed.

They brought up other subjects e.g. Cap & Trade, the 3 Obamacare "Czars" and who they were, the future of Medicare and Social Security, and much more. They promised to fight for us to the end!

This is one to watch, and take notes on! It was the Friday, August 28th in Kenner, La..
